Thalipeeth, kothimbir wadi, zunka bhakar, piyush, dalimbi usal...there's more to Maharashtrian food than the ubiquitous vada pav. Attend a food walk this weekend that promises to take you on a culinary journey of the state, in Dadar. The walk is being organised by Wandering Foodie.
Zunka Bhakar
"Dadar has always been the cultural centre of Maharashtra and not surprisingly, the birthplace of the vada pav. This walk will feature Maharashtrian dishes in some very old eateries, which have stood the test of time and changing culinary trends," says Rahul Patil, founder of Wandering Foodie.
Vada Pav at Shree Krishna
The places covered include Maharashtrian stalwarts such as Shree Krishna Batata Vada, Mama Kane, Tambe Aarogya Bhavan, Trupti, Prakash and Gypsy Corner. Expect to hear stories about Maharashtrian traditions associated with food and festivals, during the three-hour walk.
All the places are vegetarian, but Patil will point out a few non-vegetarian joints too. He advises wearing comfortable footwear.
On: January 14, 10.30 am onwards
Starting point: Veer Kotwal Garden, opposite Plaza Cinema, Dadar (W).
