Navroz, also known as Parsi New Year is a festival that is celebrated across the nation with a feast. There is a variety of dishes one can try out during this festive day, but we zero in on five navroz dishes that you should definitely try out today.

Bhonu

One of the most signature meals for all Parsis, Bhonu is an assortment of delicacies and foodstuffs that comprise what they call a 'proper meal.' Vegetarian bhonu includes gajar mewa nu achaar, vegetable and cheese pattice, masala n dal, Russian salad, patra ni paneer, while non-vegetarian bhonu includes mutton pulav, chicken pattice, jardaloo ma marghi. One of the most basic dishes that make for a unique fest.

Dhansak

One of the most famously known dishes in the cuisine which many have tried at least once. Dhansak is a combination of Persian and Gujarati cuisines. It involves the cooking of mutton/ goat meat in vegetables and lentils. This is accompanied by brown rice, which is basically cooked in caramel water which brings a tinge of sweetness to the dish. Meanwhile the dal is cooked along with the vegetables and meat separately. The preparation time for Dhansak may take a while but is definitely worth the wait.

Chicken Farcha

This is an appetizer which is prepared mainly with chicken and egg. Chicken Farcha is one of the most sought-after appetizers in the Parsi cuisine and makes for an ideal start to your Navroz meal. If you opt for the dish as an appetizer, you can serve it with a sauce/ dip of your choice or lemon wedges. In case the Chicken Farcha is main course, you can serve it upon of a bed of freshly boiled rice.

Akuri
This egg dish is quickly prepared and is never overcooked. The eggs are scrambled and mixed along with onions, ginger, chopped chillis and coriander. Akuri is usually accompanied with bread (pav) or roti. This dish is quite similar to egg bhurji.

Sali Boti

One of the most sought-after dishes in the Parsi cuisine, Sali Boti is a meat dish (mutton) cooked in hot spices, onion, jaggery and a bit of vinegar and covered with fried potato sticks and garnished with coriander.
