Saffron 12 in Mahim offers a variety of culinary options with a few hits and misses
Located in Mahim and easily accessible from Dadar, the eatery Saffron 12 offers a mix of Indian, Continental and Indo-Chinese preparations. On the Monday night we visited, it was almost empty, not the best of signs; we figured it would probably pick up steam on weekends.
The Paneer Bhavnagari Mirch were only slightly spicy
The eatery boasted of a predominantly black and white-hued decor. With black diner booths, the cutlery in all-white stood out while the walls grabbed our eye with aesthetically framed mirrors.
The Bloody Mary cocktail was invigorating
We started off with the starter Paneer Bhavnagari Mirch (Rs 250) with a Bloody Mary (Rs 315) and a Blushing Daiquiri (Rs 130) for company. The Bhavnagari Mirch consisted of Bhavnagari chillis (which are long, but not too spicy) that are served stuffed with paneer bhurji and coated with a mix of spices. It was slightly spicy and delicious. The coating, however, was too dry. The drinks were satisfactory; the Bloody Mary was potent and the bright pink Blushing Daiquiri, made from coconut cream, strawberry juice, and vanilla, was refreshing.

In the mains, we ordered the Parbhi Mutton (Rs 475) with Rumali Roti (Rs 35). The mutton was too chewy and the portions were less, especially considering the price. The gravy was succulent, though. The Chicken Stroganoff (Rs 295) was our pick of the day. It ticked all the boxes as it was delicious, meaty and had the right blend of spices. Our final order was the Triple Pudding (Rs 140). Made with canned fruits and doused with jelly, it was too sweet for our liking and we had to abandon it mid-way. With some refinement for a few dishes and generous portions, the eatery may manage more patrons.
