Kipos, which means garden in Greek, is the suburb’s newest lounge that seems to get most of its stuff right

Kipos
Food: Can do better
Service: Friendly
Ambiance: Blue

Think Greek, and the imagery that comes to mind is usually the white-and-blue colour play. As we had expected, we got an overkill of this combination as soon as we set foot into Kipos. The roomy seating, with simple white walls and wall art seemed pretty but the blue lighting could have been toned down. Settled in our high chairs, a glance at the menu revealed a combination of Mediterranean influences, pizzas and some Greek dishes, of course.

Crispy Fried Chicken Burger

We chose the Kipos Signature cocktail (Rs 300, prices exclusive of taxes) and Pommie mocktail (Rs 200). With a bit of sweetness due to the sugar syrup and a shot of chilli, the cocktail made for a good start to the proceedings; it complimented the Crispy Fried Chicken Burger (Rs 300) that came with two thin chicken patties, and fries on the side. Although crisp, the fries were too salty.

Level 5 was a good vegetarian pizza

The mocktail was also a hit with its mix of pomegranate, lime and cranberry flavours. Next, we tried a Grecian-styled Cottage Cheese Gyros (Rs 200) from their wraps section in the menu. This was a let down; the pita bread was too chewy while the paneer filling didn't have any standout flavours.

Kipos boasts of a large community table in the centre

The potato wedges served with it were salty too. We hoped the Level 5 pizza (Rs 375 for 8 inches), and Moussaka (Rs 400) would do justice to our mains. The first choice didn't disappoint - the vegetarian pizza was gobbled up and its thin base played a good support to the cheeses and vegetables. The Moussaka felt more like a good home-styled kheema than a Greek dish. The small portion wasn't value for our money.

Kipos Signature cocktail (front) gave a spicy start to our meal

Kipos (which has replaced Shockk) has a lot going for it with a large space and a simple, mostly smart-priced menu. Apart from some sorting out on the kitchen front, it should be a memorable walk into this garden.
