Practise your best British accent and watch iconic English comedies over a weekend camp
Campsite
The British are known to have given the world many things - fish and chips, tea, David Beckham, The Beatles and, most importantly, their trademark humour. If you're a fan of their quirky brand of comedy, sign up for Keep Your Knickers On, a weekend camping experience that will throw in screenings of the best British comic performances and give you the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals.
Monty Python
Organised by Vagabond, the camp will be held in Thakursai, near Pune, on the banks of Lake Pawna. And it is in this picturesque setting that you will be treated to British comedies, in addition to other activities. "This is the first time we're hosting a camp that revolves around this theme. We always curate events that bring our interests to the table. I love classic Brit comedies, so we thought we should incorporate it in our camp this time," says Vagabond co-founder Elton D'Mello.
Fry & Laurie
The line-up will include a mix of sketches and TV?shows. "Everybody knows about Rowan Atkinson after watching him in his role as Mr Bean, but not many people know that he was popular before that, in a show called The Black Adder. Similarly, Hugh Laurie, whom the world now knows as Dr House, initially gained fame with a sketch comedy television series titled A Bit of Fry &?Laurie, which also starred Stephen Fry," says D'Mello, adding that they will be screening episodes of these two shows, in addition to others such as Fawlty Towers and Monty Python.
A common zone at the site
While the camp will act as a meet-up for people who enjoy British humour, it is also a good chance to familiarise yourself with these shows if you haven't already done so. "We'd love for people who've never watched these shows to join us. We will even be playing some games," emphasises D'Mello.
If there is still time remaining after the screening, the organisers might throw in a movie, too. Additionally, you can indulge in all the activities that you otherwise would at the campsite: take a dip in the lake, get warm and toasty by the campfire, or just soak in the beauty of the place.
