Three questions with Reinhardt Dias, guitarist from the band Blakc
A. We have been busy working on songs for our third album. We spend a lot of time recording demos to see where our music is going. And to figure out what we can do in our songs to deliver an album worthy of good songs. We haven't thought of a name yet; it's a work in progress. We are looking at a release late next year.
Formed in 2006 as a college band, and officially named Blakc in 2007, the group is made up of (clockwise from left) Varun Sood, Reinhardt Dias, Shawn Pereira, Anish Menon and Roop Thomas
Q. This will be your first album with drummer Varun Sood. Do the dynamics change with a new entrant?
A. The dynamics have changed since Varun joined. As it's always with a new member, we had to start from scratch with him. But there are more ideas around. There's lot more focus given to details. And there's a new kind of energy in the band. The way we write our music has changed too. It is more idea driven and we are constantly trying different stuff.
Q. Will we get to hear a few tracks from your upcoming album at today's gig?
A. Our performance is a long set that will last for roughly 90 minutes. Usually, when we have a longer set like this, we have the liberty to perform all our songs. So, we are going to play a lot of songs from previous two albums (Choking On A Dream and Motheredland) as well as some new tracks we have been working on for our third album. But most importantly, you will hear a new Blakc. We have retuned our gear, and I have a new seven-string guitar that adds a heavier sound to our performance. But at the same time, it will be our signature music. It will be just more intense.
