In an exclusive interview with mid-day, author, colunmnist and journalist Bachi Karkaria talks about her book, the other side of the man Prem Ahuja, Sylvia and Kawas Nanavati.
How you have depicted Prem Ahuja in the book? We have seen so many versuons of him
b: I think you have seen only one version of Prem Ahuja which of the unmitigated villian but I was determined that I wouldn't complete this book till I have more on Prem Ahuja. I found out that well he was just a playboy. He was one person who in the three characters who was in his complete character. You do expect a playboy to party and seduce women so that's what he was but I must tell you one thing which is in the book. There is a very differebt version of Prem where he was the cap commander in Army where during the partition refugees were coming in from the Pakistan border and he was kind to this woman, this family and this lady who said that this very kind gentleman who helped them and have a separate bathroom in the camp. It was a big deal for her then because they had left behind 8 properties in Pakistan. 10 years later, he even gave her job in the company. He respected women and this aspect is also there in the book.
What about S because she has been always been projected as a victim of seduction
When it comes to Sylvia, she wasn't forced, it was a consensual affair.
