Jhapan Mela, West Bengal
This unique festival celebrated in Bishnupur district of West Bengal sees a congregation of snake charmers (known as jhapanias) who perform some thrilling acts with King Cobras at this fair. The festival is dedicated to serpent goddess Mansha.

Onam, Kerala
The 10-day harvest festival marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali. The most spectacular celebrations take place in Trivandrum, Thrissur, and Kottayam and festivities dancing, traditional feasts served on banana leaves and snake boat races.

Gokulashtami, Vrindavan
The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with gusto in Vrindavan, located 55 kms from Agra. While celebrations begin at midnight, the next day people form human pyramids to break open clay pots filled with butter, as part of Dahi Handi celebrations.
