Creeks along Mumbai's coast might soon have houseboats floating on them, something that would be reminscent of God's own country, Kerala. The Gorai Machchimar Sahakari Sanstha has sought permission from Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) for this venture.
According to The Times of India, this is the first time that facilities such as this, are being introduced in Mumbai suburbs and Thane. 11 proposals from coastal districts have been received by the MMB to set up houseboats.
Furthermore, water sport facilities like kayaking, banana rides, water scooters and speed boats will also be introduced in the coming months at Juhu, Versova, Aksa, Marve, Manori, Gorai, Ghodbunder, Bhayandar and Vasai, with the operator charged Rs 10,000 per boat a year and a security deposit of similar amount.
