In a bid to encourage efforts on protecting the wildlife in the city and bring to light the contribution of people on-ground Mid-Day's senior environment journalist Ranjeet Jadhav brings to our readers and viewers an exclusive video series âNavigating the Wild' covering these lesser known narratives. The teaser of the video series is out today, with the first episode scheduled to be released on June 16.
âNavigating The Wild' showcases untold stories of unsung heroes, often away from the spotlight, who consistently work towards wildlife conservation and mitigating issues surrounding human-wildlife in Maharashtra.
The first episode âCamera Trappers of Aarey Forest' is a story about how a citizen science project involving people from different walks of life is helping the Maharashtra Forest Department in long-term monitoring of leopard activity in the Aarey Forest using camera traps.
The leopard activity data gathered over the years by the team is a prerequisite for tracking encounters of the wild cat with human. Not only it helps the Maharashtra forest department during Human-Wildlife Conflict incidents, but also showcases the extraordinary story of coexistence in the forests of Mumbai, which is one of the places with highest density of leopards in the world.
