COVID19 is a dreadful disease especially in the case of people with comorbidities or older age. While most of the reliable modes of treatment have reportedly produced side-effects in the post-recovery period, Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail therapy is working wonders in the fight against the pandemic.

The recent success of the break-through treatment has been recorded in Mulund, a central suburb of Mumbai. Dr. Balbir Singh Kohli, an Intensivist and Critical Care Physician at Platinum Hospital, Mulund, administered the antibody cocktail to a 64-year-old patient admitted with mild to moderate symptoms and 56 per cent lung involvement.

Since the cocktail was administered at an early stage since diagnosis, it prevented the aggravation of symptoms. Patients health didn't get worse despite the comorbidities he had. In usual cases, days after the first week are considered sensitive. The symptoms get severe, and doctors may resort to immunomodulation or usage of steroids to save patients. These treatments are associated with the risks of secondary pathological infections like CMV and fatal Mucormycosis.

In another case, Platinum Hospital's Pulmonologist and Intensivist Dr. Prasad Padwal administered the cocktail to a 44-year-old female with moderate to sever lung involvement and comorbidities. Both the patients were discharged after successful recovery in a span shorter than usual.

In some cases in India, patients' vital parameters have been observed to improve within 12 hours.

The Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail combines two distinct antibodies, Casirivimab and Indevimab. When administered at the right time, while the symptoms are moderate, the antibodies non-competitively bind to the COVID19 virus cells preventing them from infecting healthy cells. The relative risk of the symptoms getting worse comes down by 70 per cent.

The mode of treatment shot to popularity since it was administered to former US President Donald Trump last year.
