Prableen Kaur Bhomrah
Prableen Kaur Bhomrah is a YouTuber and content creator with over a lakh followers on Instagram & over 45,000 subscribers on Youtube. She is India's very first leading skin-positive influencer. She is originally unfiltered and often shows her raw side to her followers that most beauty influencers tend to leave out. Sharing her own experiences with her battle with PCOS, PKB has created a safe space for women and men and has always encouraged them to always embrace and love their skin, even when times are tough. PKB is also the very first in the country to start a #NoFilter Campaign that propelled her audience to love their raw self and bring it out fearlessly.
Along with her social media life, PKB is also pursuing engineering & has been successful in staying independent with her life. The idea of content creation kick-started when she was in the second year of college. She was a bubbly kid since childhood, always trying to do something new and creative in life, and that is when she gravitated towards extracurricular activities. Ever since childhood PKB has always been independent and responsible, her creativity stems from within. Her journey hasn't been easy but she left no stone unturned. She always believed in producing raw and original content. In the beginning, she never thought her acne, or PCOS journey would be a big buzz, but her audience made that happen.
Prableen started a #NoFilter Campaign to empower women like her, who were battling societal issues. Speaking of her journey, she adds "I was that girl, who believed a filter made a huge difference, in covering my âflaws' and hiding what seemed to be not your best qualities. Comparing myself to those models with flawless skin was my pastime, naïve enough to not know then that it was all photoshop. Uploading a post when you hate how you look requires a lot of pondering, planning, and strategizing, But one day it hit me, why? Why do I do this? I mean what was the worst thing that could have happened if I didn't put that filter? If I chose to not hide that side of me? The side which actually and truly is me!"
Prableen faced a lot of criticism at a very nascent stage, She used to be invited to all these blogger meets, events etc where she met with other contemporaries from the industry. She was well acquainted with quite a few of them through Instagram. But when she met they had a lot to say about her skin and her. On recognizing her and posting a cursory hello they all went, like "You should do something about acne!" "Gosh, that's a lot of pimples'', "On camera, it barely shows ya, have you thought of any treatment?!" - These statements kind of triggered me and I decided to break these stereotypical conversations and judgements. If I am comfortable in my skin, why do people have an issue with that. That's when I came up with the#NoFilter idea. Honestly, at first - I didn't expect if people would resonate to it and take it up. But, in a blink of an eye - The Campaign went viral and I was appreciated by my followers. I got tons of DM's and messages, wherein people spoke about their journey and told me how they feel empowered by my Campaign. They thanked me for being Raw and Real - That's what gave me strength and positivity. If I can help one person also love their original self, I win there.
Prableen is the voice of one among many women across the country who face similar issues. She was also recognized by some prestigious platforms and publications like Humans of Bombay, Cosmopolitan, Femina etc for this campaign. She is constantly trying to help society break away from the unjust beauty standards it puts its women through, and open up to a whole new world of beauty! Prableen feels that all aspiring & budding content creators today should be really passionate about what they want to do and not fall into the trap of social media. She further adds that she follows a solid motto - "Be original, be you"; One should start their career with the vision of inspiring and influencing people positively. Identify your niche & be engaging and consistent with your content. Because people will always look out for the uniqueness you bring on the plate, and that's what stands out. Be natural."
