Raunak Singh

Many times we have heard people saying that age is just a number but if you really want to understand the true meaning of this statement, you should know about Raunak Singh.

Raunak Singh is basically from Cuttack, Odisha, and he is just a 25 years old young B.Com graduate but what makes him stand apart from other youngsters of his age is his helping nature and inclination towards social service. Raunak is very much influenced by the teachings of Sikh Gurus which say that serving mankind selflessly is the best way to serve or worship the God.

Raunak Singh is the founder of an NGO called Sikh Aid which is pretty active all over the country and is involved in many humanitarian works such as providing food and medical facilities to the poor people, helping kids of the underprivileged section of society in getting educated, working for animal welfare, etc.

However, Raunak Singh started his journey alone and in the beginning, he used to introduce the needy person with the donor so that the former got the required help and there are quite good number of instances when Raunak himself made donations. He also used to visit government colleges and schools for distributing stationary items free of cost to students so that they didn't face any problem in carrying on with their studies.

But what changed Raunak's life completely was COVID-19 as he was very upset when he saw that the migrant workers had to walk on foot with their family members and luggage for reaching their native places. The COVID-19 lockdown was imposed suddenly by the government in order to stop the spread of the dangerous virus but it also created many problems for the citizens of the country, especially the poor and daily wage earners.

During the lockdown, the migrant workers found it impossible to stay in big cities where they moved for work purposes despite the fact that various state governments came up with schemes to help these migrant workers. As all the transportation mediums were at halt, the migrant workers were left with no option and they chose to start their journey on foot. This was too much to bear for an emotional and helpful person like Raunak Singh and he not only provided food to these workers but also arranged for buses so that the poor people did not face any difficulty in reaching their homes.

It was during the first wave of COVID-19 that Raunak Singh founded his NGO Sikh Aid and he played a very big role in the second wave of the pandemic. During the second wave, the condition was so bad that hospitals were full of patients which increased the need of oxygen to peak level and as a result, there was lack of oxygen in many hospitals. At that time, Raunak Singh arranged for oxygen cylinders and concentrators, supplied them to home quarantine patients in Odisha and saved around 10,000 people from losing their lives.

There is no denying the fact that lives of doctors and medical staff were at risk while they were treating COVID-19 patients and policemen risked their lives by making sure that we lived inside our houses but social workers like Raunak Singh also deserved to be called Corona Warriors as they were also out of their houses and trying their best to help and save lives of COVID positive patients along with poor and needy persons.

The people of Cuttack and Odisha love him a lot and treat him as one of their family members. They also try their best to help Raunak Singh by making donations so that he can carry on with the noble work that he has been doing at such a young age.

Though Raunak Singh is a pretty popular face on the social media networks such as Facebook, we still should make him more famous so that others, especially the youngsters, can learn from him and also get involved in good deeds.
