NIEM
It was interesting to talk to a lot of concerned persons of Asia's leading and first event institute - NIEM the Institute of Event Management. We talked across all sections at Mumbai and Pune branches and were amazed at their achievements, grit and determination. NIEMites are achievers all the way.
At Mumbai we started with the dean - Dr. Hoshi Bhiwandiwalla, highly educated with two PhD's and has the highest event experience, rightly called father of event management, had a straight forward approach, he told NIEM is credible and genuine, as we have actually researched and our aim is to create actual passionate event managers (ask any NIEM student and they will echo it), he said we are the first in Asia to give our country a well -researched Indianized event program, accepted by the event industry, we were the first in the world to actually start giving our students live events to work on and today our students work on 90% of the events and hold positions in 90% event companies. We have some of the finest faculty, informative workshops and gave the world the concept of in-house events. There is a lot of support from my faculty and event industry, but NIEM's success was mainly scripted over the last 21 years by the event passionate NIEM students. I have learnt more from them than I could teach them. The other director ShahaanChesan added that our students have formed huge event companies and are working on almost all events, we have at least five faculty who have doctorates and many have master degrees and passionately teach event management.
We then talked to Harshvardhan a present batch student, who said besides good teaching and training we are encouraged to do social service, our dean stresses that service to humanity and our country is service to God, a fully NIEM funded project to distribute food to the needy in Mumbai and Pune, is being encouraged by our authorities, we also give water and snacks to our brave Mumbai police who protect us. Sejal Sharma chipped in and said we are one family and Hoshi sir and Shahaan are so protective and our other coordinators are so helpful, our faculty is wonderful and we are encouraged to learn everything in events, there is constant motivation and support and in this horrible times when you break down, the NIEM authorities are always ready to even emotionally support us.
Prof.Dr.ShobhnaVora told NIEM students are wonderful and the whole atmosphere is one big family, the projects workshops and programs are so creative and full of learning experience and we faculty are always respected and consulted. The most excited to talk to us was GaganGoel with NeeharikaSaluja who told us that while other event institutes had only online lectures and may be some events NIEM gave them a feeling of actual event management, many things that could have been done without any cost in our classrooms was brought to costly halls when for a brief period of about four months events were permitted in halls at 50% capacity, as Hoshi sir always wanted to follow rules and do everything legally, so even with the huge financial crunch, he booked halls (capacity 250 seats for us 50 to 60 students), social distancing was strictly kept and masks were on.
We could interact with industry giants, do simulated project submissions and plan events. The best was when a 900 seater hall was booked and only 300 people were allowed. We did three shows which were close to real huge event, following strict covid rules at Mumbai, Pune and one was at All India level. The learning experience was awesome. We all students felt only a large hearted management would do so much for the students even in such difficult period and yet strictly follow the law and covid rules. The only time Hoshi sir would get angry if a mask was down or a student sat too close in those halls. Even the audience was not spared and security was kept to ensure that rules are followed. NIEM did not care for losses but gave us a world of experience, no institute in the world could give.
At Pune a talk with Dr. Karna Upadhyay who is passionate and devoted to his work and students, Karna told us that we do the same social service to the poor and needy at Pune, we also salute our Pune police for the hard-work they do. I owe the success of all our achievements to my Pune kids who stood by all the time. Rishabh Agarwal a Pune student was excited about the workshops, presentations done in the halls and he echoed the same feelings as the Mumbai students, that money was not the criteria and halls were booked to teach us events. For 45 students halls of 250 capacity were booked, the best was the grand Pune show which was done keeping all covid protocols and without an audience, where the Pune students learnt a lot. We are proud of our NIEM. Ms. Monika Patel told even online lectures and workshops were a great experience and we got some of the best events in Pune even for a brief period that was permitted by the government, we can never believe that an institute can be so caring.
After hearing all this we felt that we should pen all what we heard and that was the least we could do for a wonderful educational institute THAT CARES. NIEM can be contacted at Mumbai on 022-26716676, Pune on 09175153325, Ahmedabad on 079-40307200 and visit the website www.niemindia.com.
