The Academy Award-nominated Mexican actress, producer and director Salma Hayek portrays Ajak, and she was ecstatic to be asked to star in an MCU movie with a female director and a focus on diversity. "I'm very happy to be part of this particular film for Marvel because Chloé has a very specific vision for the movie," says Hayek. "It is the most diverse cast they've ever had. She uses our personalities and our diversity in a seamless way in the film so that it's unifying at the same time as celebrating. You get the sensation that you're making almost like an independent film that is huge. It's not in the sense of an independent, but in the way independent films tell very personal stories. And this is amplified visually and with the stakes. It's a beautiful combination."
She also speaks about her favorite moment in the film, "I had a very important moment in this film, personally, because I had a severe accident with a horse many years ago. I love horses, and I own horses. But I didn't get on horses, and I have a scene where I have to ride a horse. I really didn't know if I was going to be able to do it. I could've used a double, but I decided to do it, and I freed myself from my fear. I was able to just gallop with the horse. I feel it even helped for the character. It was a freeing experience for me."
The cast bonded very well on the sets too, she adds, "Yes, the bonding was extremely easy. I think this movie was very cleverly cast. Everybody's unique and special and loving and giving. So, it was very easy to become a family. We became a family very fast"
