Sherise D’souza
As a singer-songwriter, Sherise aspires to touch as many lives with her music and inspire
them. This new track seems like another milestone in her pursuit of making the world a better place.
What was the inspiration behind your song âNEVER BORN'?
The song 'Never Born' song is inspired by the struggles of living in this new masked-world. Those who found it difficult to cope with the changes underwent depression, felt helplessness, loneliness due to loss of careers, war, economy slowdown, etc. Human beings have almost become like soldiers fighting for their own freedom from the curses of oppression of war, politics, man-made diseases and destruction. The song brings out feelings of desperation and helplessness felt when one goes through failure, loss or has to fight for noble causes to make life better for future generations. Any soldier, freedom fighter or savior often has to fight difficult battles, first within themselves, before they fight external battles. they also look back at the struggles that they faced, which made them stronger. After listening to this song, I want people to find a release of their negative emotions through music, so that it can lead them to constructively move on to being positive and stronger, within and improve the environment around them.

What message would you like to convey through your music to your listeners and existing / new fans?
My message to my listeners would be to keep believing in themselves and not to give up hope! These times have taught us who are our true family, friends and supporters. I am truly happy to be discovered by fans and friends worldwide though my music and I always always strive to make the world a better place and leave behind a a little more love and my own signature legacy with all the work that I deliver and put out there into the universe. I would also want all my fans and friends to be supportive of me on this journey and also to spread the message of love and be empowered, wherever they are.
What drives your passion to do music amidst a day job? . How do you balance both?
The urgency of wanting to communicate a message to the world and the drive to bring about a positive change first within myself and then in others; to influence my fans to become better and more loving versions of themselves drives me, as an artiste.
How did you get into music? How has it been so far.
I was first encouraged by my parents to learn and participate in gospel music programs. I believe that when I sing for God, it's like praying twice and that's what made me delve deeper into learning and performing more gospel music with choirs and various quartets and collectives. Learning musical works in the western classical space has also helped me to delve deeper into how emotion has been communicated through music over the years. It has been a deeply moving and inspiring journey for me so far, and this comes through in all the music that I put out, too. It has been great to take small but meaningful steps in the musical direction being guided by awesome mentors and teachers along the way from various parts of the world. I have also been very fortunate to have my music reach so many nations, which was a brilliant surprise for me.
Tell us about your dream collaboration?
I have so many collaboration dreams - I truly admire Miley Cyrus's work and would love to collaborate with her.I also would love to collaborate with Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé in the R&B space. In the rock space, I would love to work with Amy Lee.
There are very few Indian female artists doing Indie Rock music. What has been the challenges you've faced till date?
Yes, it's been great to experiment, push my boundaries, go beyond the popular comfort-zone and work in the Indie-Rock space. The challenges I faced were just that most music on the charts is mostly in the pop and hip-hop space. I am thrilled to bring out something new for my listeners in the rock space and I have been getting great feedback about the rock songs that I release. That is a fabulous cue for me to release more of such types of songs.
What's in store for Sherise in the coming months?
I am due to release the Symphonic-Rock version of 'Never Born' on all platforms on 1st October, 2021 in collaboration with MX-Pro records, Germany. I am also looking forward to start performing again, once venues open up. I also plan to perform my originals on various singer-songwriter showcases in India and live shows, across the world, as I currently have around 13 original songs, already available on YouTube and the various music stores.
