It has been extensively reported that the number of domestic violence and gender-based violence cases have soared in India over the last two years, the pandemic phase to be precise. Studies indicate a 92% increase in domestic violence cases throughout the country. While several organisations and legal authorities have been actively handling such matters, the Hothur Foundation has also been working delicately to eradicate such crimes and help those affected by it.
With an aim of uplifting the economically backward and tackling grave issues faced by women and society, the foundation came up with #HothurEmpowers, an initiative to help victims of domestic and gender-based violence get their lives back on track.
A source says, "Currently, the foundation is sheltering these women and their children in safe homes and helping them get back to normal with psychological counselling, rehabilitative therapy, financial aid and medical treatment. They also help women who have encountered acid attacks, an extreme form of gender-based violence."
Talking about the endeavour, Hothur Shadab Wahab, founder of the Hothur Foundation, says, "We want to reach out to as many women as possible to rehabilitate them and empower them with hope so they can stand on their own feet."
Hothur Shadab Wahab's foundation runs #HothurEmpowers to help victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
