Celebrated Indian Investor Salaman Khan Seeks Out Startups To Promote

Salaman the angel investor had already been involved in the creation of numerous startups, accumulating a wealth of experience in searching for new partners who could add value to his businesses. But, how and when did he choose this path?

In 2018, his cousin became pregnant and was faced with the awful fact that the doctors who were tasked to care for her were providing contradictory consultations, even worse they seemed to have little time to spare. This resulted in her searching for all the information she needed on the internet, or through friends and family. Since her husband had left her, there was almost no support.

That's when Salaman thought of the Embara mobile application, which he designed to allow women to upload all their pregnancy data, and receive not only advice but also online support. Using Embara, any expectant mother is able to communicate with other women in different countries, and even receive weekly consultations from doctors online. Salaman also thought of "emergency buttons" that allowed users to contact doctors at home, or send relatives the coordinates in case of emergency.

Unfortunately, there were no interested investors in India, which led Salaman to take his search around the world. In 2019 he found a platform which could help him to connect with other startups and network with possible investors, this is when he became involved in the Korean business accelerator Startupbootcamp, Fintech Singapore, and thereafter was selected to join the Korean accelerator K-STARTUP GRAND CHALLENGE.

This is when things changed, a Belgian investor (who asked to remain anonymous) provided the first 16 000 euros to begin development of the Embara app. With this funding, Salaman hired a team from India and Pakistan, and launched the app within a year, then in 2020 he sold Embara to a businessman from Latin America for $74,000. Inevitably, changes were made to both the operation and name of the application, although the concept remained the same. According to the non-disclosure agreement, details of the new application cannot be disclosed to Salaman, but it is popular in Latam and brings a large annual profit to the owner.

Salaman was grateful for the experience of participating in the business accelerators, but was surprised how few investors paid attention to the really useful startups, so in 2020 he decided that he wanted to help people with interesting business ideas. Salaman recalled how he could not find investors from his own country, which led to the development of a new startup in 2021, the premise was to help other Indian entrepreneurs. From all the years of being involved in trading, Salaman had accumulated a sizable sum of cash, which he has used to help several acquaintances to develop their business ideas.

It does not matter to Salaman what the startup is, whether it's; medicine, advertising, education or something else, but the main thing is that it benefits the Indian people.
