Bollywood has always extended a warm welcome to renowned Marathi film directors ( Late Nishikant Kamat and Ashutosh Gowariker ) as filmmakers who have introduced their unique genre of meaningful cinema. Now, it is the turn of award-winning Marathi film director Atul Jagadale ( Ganvesh ) who is all set to cross over to Hindi cinema with a big-budget ensemble cast based on an intriguing subject.

What has been your experience with Hindi film producers ?

" B -Town producers are better receptive to my ideas given my background. Thanks to OTT, Bollywood content is getting better, but we still need to cater to the mass audience which colossal box office grossers require, so maintiaing a balance is need of the hour. I want to make a rooted film that will appeal to the family and not depend only on gloss and star power, " stated Atul Jagdale.

How can the Marathi film industry grow further?

"We need a giant canvas to appeal to urban Marathi-speaking audiences who prefer Hindi cinema. Our lingo films do well in the interiors of our great state. This will automatically happen when our film budgets get better," says Atul, who has been part of the Marathi film, TV and TVC industry for ten years as a cinematographer before turning producer and director with Ganvesh back in 2016."

"Marathi film scripts, too, need to develop mass-based concepts like we have UP hinterland rooted stories. Marathi films so far have limited genres i..e. historicals. At the same time, we also need to compete with south cinema in terms of gloss."

"The above change is already in process, and I would be happy to be the catalyst to make our local film industry more prominent and better Both Marathi and Hindi cinema can benefit from the cross-utilization of talents and technicians." added Atul

"All film industries borrow from the local cultural ethos, so Hindi films have been enriched with stories revolving around the trials and tribulation of Mumbaikar, as made by Raj Kapoor and Vijay Anand."

Here Atul added "My upcoming movie is not Mumbai based, though. Instead, it has a pan India concept. I want to be known as a national level filmmaker. Bollywood is the best vehicle for that. Having won a state award for Ganvesh, I am also working hard to get national and international laurels for my debut Hindi film."

Ganvesh starring Dilip Prabhavalkar, Mukta Barve and Kishore Kadam, comments on ordinary Maharashtrians' political and social life. A school uniform plays the unifying chord". I will also keep working in Marathi as well. In fact my next film, which I will again produce is already in the pipeline. I will officially announce the details of both my films soon " ended the filmmaker.
