The mid-cycle update gives the crossover a reworked front fascia, tweaked rear profile, and additional features
Maruti is all set to drive in the mid-cycle update/facelift model of the S-Cross in the coming weeks. The model that started Maruti's successful Nexa range of dealership is ready to receive its first major update. Several Nexa dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the updated S-Cross. For the uninitiated, the S-Cross facelift was unveiled last year in July and is on sale in almost all major markets.
It is the front profile that went under the knife the most. The updated S-Cross gets a relatively upright stance with its new chrome grille. The redesigned headlamps now feature LED projector headlamps along with daytime running LEDs.
At the sides, it rides on a new set of diamond-cut alloys, while the rear profile features a tweaked bumper and tail lamps that now come with LED graphics. Its interior remained unchanged.
In terms of powertrain, reports suggest that Maruti will discontinue the 1.6-litre diesel (120PS/320Nm) engine that is only available with the top spec variant since Jan 2017. The increase in cess for luxury vehicles and SUVs with engine capacity above 1.5-litres could also be the reason behind the move. The popular 1.3-litre diesel engine that churns out 90PS and 200Nm of peak torque will be the mainstay.
In international markets, the S-Cross facelift received Suzuki's range of Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines - a 1.0-litre (111PS/170Nm) and a 1.4-litre Boosterjet (140PS/220Nm). While we hope Maruti will launch a petrol version of the S-Cross this time around, it remains to be seen which engine the manufacturer will choose for our market.
