NGO Magic Bus believes its foray into merchandising will help bring their main cause of empowering the street kid through sport, into public eye
"Changing the game" ufffd this tagline pretty much sums up NGO Magic Bus Foundation's beliefs and ideology.
Currently in the process of reorienting its approach, their main focus has always been towards providing kids with opportunities in the fields of gender, education and health by using sports as a medium. "Clarity is important. We at Magic Bus hope to touch the one million mark in 2014. Right now, we have reached out to 1,50,000 kids in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. We've noticed that corporate and individual funding is insufficient for our projects so we thought of creating new avenues instead of depending solely on such resources," informs Sohan Shah, Head, Communications, a day after their merchandise went on sale at The Bombay Store.u00a0
Founded by Matthew Spacie in 1999, Magic Bus has been in the forefront of empowering street kids through sport. Sohan shares that the pricing, which ranges from Rs 75 (for key chains) to Rs 1,300 (for laptop bags) will also include tees, satchels, cardholders and watches. Two creative souls at Design Stack ufffd Priyanka Bhasin and Anoop Patnaik, both NID graduates did justice to the products with catchy graphics and styling of the Magic Bus merchandise. "In fact, they didn't even charge a paisa for this project," Sohan tells us.u00a0
Along with the folks at The Bombay Store, led by CEO Anaggh Desai, this initiative has created the right avenue for Magic Bus to look at other media. A substantial amount of profits will be streamlined towards Magic Bus initiatives including spreading its wings to cities like Bangalore, Kolkata and in Jharkhand. "The biggest positive," he believes, "is to make people understand and engage them to understand that we are a sports-based NGO, which seeks to empower kids across these diverse areas."
