Fans of Black Metal rejoice as distorted guitar riffs, blast beast drumming and loud growls are back with the third edition of the Black Metal Krieg (BKM), India's only Black Metal music festival being held this Sunday in Thane.
Started by Kunal Gonsalves of Stark Denial as a tribute to his parents, the Black Metal Krieg has gotten bigger with nine bands from all over India including one each from Jaipur, Delhi, Bengaluru, Guwahati, and five acts from Mumbai performing at the festival. The first edition had just four bands.
Often dubbed as Satanic music, largely because of the devil-sympathising and anti-Christian lyrics, Black Metal, is slowly but gradually picking up pace in India, says Gonsalves, who will also be performing at the festival with his band. "We now have bands from different parts of the country playing this genre of music," adds Gonsalves.
"We have been organising this show for the past two years on our own, and it has always been a tremendous task. The major challenge is the venue and sound. BMK 1 and 2 were held at B69 in Andheri (E), but ever since that got shut down it's been difficult to get a good venue. But this year, we have a larger support," he adds.
This year's BMK is being held at the four-star hotel, United 21 in Thane. This current edition will also see Stark Denial releasing their debut EP, War (Incanned Productions) and Cosmic Infusion releasing their DVD, titled Rise of the Funeral Smoke. Fans could also order limited edition Black Metal Krieg 3 tees, which will be available at the festival venue. So, if you like all things Metal, make a dash to Thane, for incessant headbanging.
