Technology: Twitter now supports large GIFs upto 15MB in size

According to media reports, Micro-blogging website Twitter has increased its animated GIF (graphics interchange format) size limit from 5MB to 15MB if uploaded on the web from a desktop computer

New York: According to media reports, Micro-blogging website Twitter has increased its animated GIF (graphics interchange format) size limit from 5MB to 15MB if uploaded on the web from a desktop computer. However, the 5MB photo limit stays the same, along with the GIF limit, for mobile uploads on Twitter.

The update has not made its way to TweetDeck which remains perennially behind the times when it comes to Twitter engineering improvements, a major tech website reported.

Earlier this month, Twitter appointed Bret Taylor -- former chief technology officer at Facebook and an ex-Google employee who helped build Google Maps -- to its board, in a bid to regain footing in the social media landscape. Last month, Twitter launched, "Twitter Dashboard" -- an app to streamline engagement for business accounts in order to help business owners connect with their users. The feed takes into account what type of business you are running, then combines mentions and keyword searches to find people talking about your brand, even if they do not tag your handle directly. Also in June, Twitter introduced #Stickers, a fun new way to add creativity to photos and connect them to the world. The feature allows users to browse Twitter's rotating sets of stickers to join in on real-time conversations, and select from the library of hundreds of accessories, emojis, and props to make their photos more fun. The same month, Twitter also unveiled a new feature on it's official page - self-retweeting in which a user can, retweet or quote themselves with just a few taps. (Read more)

In May this year, Twitter launched a new feature to help you figure out which relevant accounts you would like to follow. Called the "Connect" tab it will make it easier for users to connect with friends and family by giving them the option to automatically sync their address book. (Read more)
