Technology: Now, YouTube app to support live streaming

World's biggest online video-sharing platform, YouTube is all set to introduce the live streaming ability on its Android and iOS apps.

According to YouTube's official blogpost, the company introduced live streaming in 2011 with the Prince William and Kate Middleton's Royal Wedding and Felix Baumgartner's leap from space in 2012. Following that, YouTube broadcasted the first-ever 360-degree live stream at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which was viewed by over 21 million YouTubers.

Built right into the YouTube app, mobile live streaming will have all the features, mobile live streaming will have all the features your regular videos, including searching, finding them through recommendations and playlists.

According to a tweet on YouTube's official Twitter page, they would make further announcements at their live VidCon.

Earlier this month, YouTube unveiled a new feature for it's Indian userbase. Called 'Smart Offline' it enables users to save videos 'overnight' using the night data plan. This is because the data package is cheaper during the night. Once selected, the video would get saved in the users' account by next morning and can be viewed offline or in low internet connectivity.

This latest feature aims to make the overall viewing experience of YouTubers even better. (Read more)
