Dance enthusiasts are in for a treat as Contemporary dance festival, Avayava is all set to kickstart in the city from March 28


Avayava, a Sanskrit word, which means a constituent part of the body, a time-span or duration, is a Contemporary Dance Festival, which is scheduled to be held in the city from March 28 onwards. And while dance performances take the centrestage, it will also feature a host of international workshops, masterclasses and screenings of dance productions.


The festival will have a workshop on Contemporary dance as well

The aim of the festival, which is back with its second season, is to explore the nuances of Contemporary dance and further dance exploration opportunities by giving dancers a first hand experience of Contemporary dances by seasoned professionals.

The line-up includes
performers from around the world; each dedicated to a particular form of Contemporary dance thus adding a fresh insight to dance education and performance. In the international workshops section, Esteban Olives, a Contemporary Jazz choreographer based in Paris will return to the festival this year as well.

One would also be able to witness short films based on the theme of dance such as Advance, Mitchell Rose - One Dance, Two Minutes, Fifty Locations, USA and In Touch amongstothers.

Throwing light on a must-watch performance titled Shakuntala, Swapnil Dagliya, Creative Director of Swapnil's Performing Arts & Contemporary Ensemble, who is organising the event said, "Shakuntala, an alluring contemporary dance theatre performance should not be missed by people as it brings forward a lot of dance steps which are not regularly used."

Highlights at Avayava
> 5 International artistes in Contemporary Dance, Theatre and Improvisation from France, Switzerland, Spain and Sweden.
> Dance on film productions - from USA, Italy, UK, Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, etc. Scholarships from Broadway Dance Center, NYC; World Dance Movement; Harbour Dance Centre, Canada & ISPTD, India.
> Professor Shukla Das will be present for the screening of the film Power of Dance based on India's first modern/contemporary dancer Shri Uday Shankar
> Indian premiere of the film Beyond Grace that tells the story of mother-daughter duo Bharti Shivaji and Vijay Lakshmi and their journey to resurrect the once dormant style of Mohiniyattam.
> Performance of Shakuntala - a modern day version of the epic love story from the Mahabharatau00a0
