Bistro 1 is an attractive package of delicious food served in an aesthetically designed, cosy cafe that will tempt you to return for more of the experience

One evening, while passing by Indigo Cafe in Shastri Nagar, our eyes fell upon a bright blue-and-red signboard just a few meters ahead that read ‘Bistro 1'.The European style white-coloured wood and glass door and white wrought iron chairs that dressed up its al fresco section had us hooked. Piqued, we decided to drop by later, for the real deal.u00a0

As we entered, Bistro 1 surprised us. For its size, the café was aesthetically designed with smart planning and utilisation of its corners and contours - from artificial leaves hanging from the ceiling to digital prints and beautifully carved empty frames on its walls. The place screamed creativity. This apart, the furniture was tastefully done too. Despite the lack of a uniform theme, we weren't complaining about the eclectic furniture that gave the place a casual, earthy vibe.

Pasta and Olives Salad is a great option for vegetarians

Pleased, we found ourselves a quiet corner and buried ourselves into the menu. The place offers an overwhelming selection of food and drinks (non-alcoholic) so we took a while to decide.

We began with a Pomegranate and Strawberry Smoothie (Rs 149) along with fresh Watermelon Juice (Rs 99) and potato wafers (Rs 25) added to a Dark Chocolate Donut (Rs 50).

The Grilled Chicken with Veggies is apt as a main course dish

As we scoured the space and tried our hand at one of the board games (Scrabble, Monopoly and Ludo) that a nice way to pass time at the bistro, our order had arrived.

The pink-coloured smoothie, which was a bit tangy and sweet too, enlivened us and was timely respite from the heat. The watermelon juice, presented in a jam-jar was fresh.

The donut on the other hand, was sinfully delectable and satisfied the sugar-head in us. While we were content with Round One, we were in no mood to stop just yet and hence, without losing any time, called for three more dishes - Devil's Delight Pizza (Rs 259), Grilled Chicken and Italian Herb Seasoned Veggies (Rs 259) and Pasta and Olives Salad (Rs 149).

The service was reasonably fast, we realised soon enough. One bite into the thin crust pizza and we'd found our winner. The red and green chilli peppers, hot sauce, red onions and generous chunks of grilled chicken, made for a lip-smacking affair. However, if you're not a spice fan, skip this one. The Pasta salad, which had a concoction of bell peppers, mushrooms and fresh basil in pesto and olive oil dressing, evoked a similar zest in us and was also gobbled up in no time. The grilled chicken preparation added to the gastronomical joyride; though we would've given it full marks if the meat was more succulent. Nevertheless, in light of the credible experience overall, this was nitpicking.

To conclude on a sweet note, we opted for Vanilla Ice cream with Mango Chunks with Mint (Rs 129). Needless to say, we'd reached in dessert heaven by then.
