In a refreshing first for music lovers, the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation is hosting a recreational choir for adults to soak in the simple joys of singing every Thursday evening. Khursheed Lam, Honorary Co-Director -- Education Programmes, Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, says the Foundation's first adult choir was formed in response to a request from a group of parents (who sent their children to the Foundation) to introduce adult choir classes. "The Foundation believes that music should be a part of everyone's life, and all those who are interested should have a chance to explore their musical skills," she states.
Anyone who loves music and enjoys singing can join the adult choir. They conduct an audition to ensure that the chorister is able to pitch and can be placed correctly in the Choir. No prior musical training is required to qualify for the Adult Choir.
The Mehli Mehta Music Foundation (MMMF) is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes Western Classical music through high quality concerts and music education for children. Meher Marfatia, who has been a member of the choir for three years, believes that the recreational choir is important in such frenetic times as it promotes music for its sheer joy without having to perform on stage. "By being part of such a choir, people learn how to listen carefully to each other, wait for their turn, get cues from fellow members and learn music for the sake of it," she elaborates.
