An alumini of La Salle College of the Arts, Singapore, artist P Gnana's love for arts began when he was six years old. It's a love story, which has endured ever since. His new solo exhibition Nothing else but love is based on the theme of love in its many forms.
u00a0"I enjoy drawing human figures. They allow me to paint different emotions on canvas. I chose the theme of love because it gives me a chance to explore itsmany shades. It could be a bond between a mother and a child or between two lovers," says Gnana.
An interesting aspect of this exhibition is that some of the figures in the paintings are androgynous, while others are gender specific. "Gender should not be a hindrance to the viewer's perspective of unconditional love. I have tried to focus on the emotions between lovers rather than their gender in my drawings. In some others, the figures are gender defined to show the timeless concept of love as in the case of mother and child," he explains.
Gnana uses oil colours as well as fabric collage while layering his work using a palette knife. "I would paint for six hours each day for this exhibition. As I enjoy painting, I always look at it as an opportunity to explore art everyday," he adds. Among the paintings, Primeval Dialogue is his favourite. "In this painting, a cow looks on as two humans cuddle up. The human embrace is shown as a metaphor of positive energy that permeates the mind and soul when in love. The moon is portrayed as a strong symbol of passion," explains the painter.
