Bangalore's favourite Goan nightspot is coming to Mumbai. Confused? Opus, the Goa-themed club from Bangalore, is bringing their famous Karaoke Nights to Blue Frog this weekend
It started nearly six years ago at the then newbie nightclub Opus in Bangalore. Two years ago, the concept moved out of the garden city and travelled across the country. In its third year, as a national-level karaoke championship, Kroaknights (sometimes called the American Idol of karaoke) promises to be bigger than ever. The Mumbai leg of the championship will be held on August 7, so clear your throats and get ready to croon.
It might be called Kroaknight but it's a pretty serious singing contest, we're told.

the band SQS Supastars
The Mumbai judges, Mahesh Mathai and Brian Tellis, have been told to be ruthless with the participants. Ruthless they may be, but not in the MTV Roadies sense, clarifies Carlton Braganza, owner of Opus. "It's not frivolous. You don't have to wear cowboy hats to sing Country songs. It's not like drama and accessories will get you anywhere, you simply have to be a good singer and performer. So, we don't diss anybody who is taking part."
Don't be relieved so soon, though. To get your spot on the Blue Frog stage, you will have to compete with over a 100 singers (that's the minimum number of people expected to participate). There will be a pre-audition session earlier in the day from which 20 singers will be selected for the evening round. Five of the best singers will then be asked to perform again and a finalist will be chosen.
The city finalist will make his or her way to Bangalore for the grand finale. "The finals are based on an American Idol kind of setting. We'll have a hair and clothes stylist as well as there will beu00a0 a great stage show in the offing. That adds to the drama of the contest but again the prerequisite remains that you have to be a good singer," says Carlton.
The winner from the previous Kroaking contests have become full-time singers, head of rock bands or cut a deal with music labels. "Kroaking Nights are a great vehicle to find good talent. There is enough being done for Bollywood and regional music but there are still a lot of international sounding singers who don't really get a chance to get noticed," Carlton points out.
