The building, located in the centre of the city, has alumni who range from freedom fighters to scientists and eminent journalists. The school boasts of a rich history and holds an important place in the educational hub of Pune.
NMV School was founded by Professor Vishnushastri Chiplunkar, who was a freedom fighter. It is reported that the school included non-Brahmin children, which was revolutionary for that time. It includes a high school and a junior college.
The building is constructed using stones made by cooling lava which ensured that the construction was strong and long-lasting. It also has a bridge connecting two buildings. Its architecture attracts foreign tourists as well. Anil Ganpat Umbarje, Principle of the NMV School for Boys, says, the school combines old and new methods of teaching.
"We are glad to be a part of this school. We have ensured that the beauty of the school is maintained and have got new amenities for the students ranging from new labs to better seating arrangements in the classes. But we have also taken pains to maintain our history.
We encourage students in all fields from sports to academics." Some of the prominent personalities who studied at the school include author and freedom fighter Pandurang Sadashiv Sane (Sane Guruji), Yeshwant Vishnu Chandrachud who was the longest-serving Chief Justice of India, Marathi humourist and Pali researcher Chintaman Vinayak Joshi, actor Mohan Agashe and Marathi journalist and anchor Sudhir Gadgil.u00a0
