A new app helps you uncover the city's secrets through helpful itineraries, fun facts and even a lingo guide
Mumbai is filled with gems, whether architectural or natural, yet we seldom find time to explore them. Now, there is an app that simplifies the process and helps you discover interesting sights and experiences.
Launched earlier this year, the app is called Explore Mumbai, and divides everything you can do around town into broad categories: Art and History Aficionados, Carnivals and Festivals, Nature Nomads, Spiritual Sanctuaries, Cuisine, Facts, Routes, and more.
Each category includes useful information and location pins for monuments, places of worship, and historic sights, as well as activities to try out. Under the Routes tile, you will find two itineraries you can follow, one with the Haji Ali Dargah as its focal point, and the other from Flora Fountain to the Gateway of India, with stops including CSMVS.
The category titled Lingo Sense provides translations and audio pronunciations for words that might come in handy while you're making your way around the city.
If you're just looking to read up a little, the Entertainment, Facts, and Flora and Fauna sections provide tidbits of information on everything from iconic Bollywood films to the species of birds to be found here.
However, there are two issues with this app. Some information is not specific to Mumbai or even India - the Cuisine section is a mish-mash of desi and European fare. You also need to pay Rs 160 to unlock all features. That said, Explore Mumbai works offline, which makes it useful to have on your smartphone when there is no Internet connectivity.
AVAILABLE ON: Android and iOS
