After revealing the official sketches of the WR-V a few days ago, Honda has teased the production-spec WR-V under a veil. The Jazz-based sub-4m SUV will have its world premiere at the 2016 Sao Paulo International Motor Show on November 8. It will go on sale in South American countries in the coming months and its Indian debut is likely to happen in the first quarter of 2017.
Honda will pitch the WR-V against the popular Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and, by the time it arrives, we expect Ford to introduce the facelifted EcoSport as well. Hyundai will also launch the Carlino sub-4m SUV in a couple of years, which made its debut as a concept at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
The WR-V is based on the Jazz and shares its side profile with the hatch, while the front and rear profiles will be entirely new. A similar approach was also seen with the Honda BR-V, which was based on the Mobilio. As seen in the teaser image, the WR-V will have LED park lights, just like the BR-V.
Since it is based on the Jazz, it will borrow most of the things that the hatch is appreciated for, such as a spacious cabin, class-leading boot space, Magic Seats, and others. The WR-V is highly likely to share its mechanicals with the hatchback in the international market. However, in India, apart from the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel, Honda might as well offer the bigger 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol from the City since the EcoSport - one of its arch rivals - offers a powerful petrol option. However, this is just wishful thinking on our part, and the possibility of this happening are quite low.
