The cultural festival Pulotsav is held in the memory of late writer PL Deshpande. The annual edition of the festival will be held over three days and will feature a widespread of events in which six awards will be distributed in memory of the author-composer. There will also be a film festival, interview sessions and other cultural programmes.
The six awardees who will receive awards during the festival includes play-writer Dr Mahesh Elkunchwar, late social activist Narendra Dabholkar, historian Babasaheb Purandare and the young brigade of Marathi actors like Girish Kulkarni and singer Bela Shende.
The highest honour of the festival, the Pulotsav Smruti Sanman Award, will be received by Elkunchwar while Purandare will be felicitated with the lifetime achievement award. It will be awarded to him on the second day of the festival. Dabhollkar, who was shot dead a few months ago, will be honoured with the Pulotsav Krutadnyata Sanman for outstanding social work. The award will be received by his son and daughter during the fest. Shrotri, Shende and Kulkarni will be honoured with this year's Pulotsav Tarunai Sanman which is given as a token of appreciation for their work at a young age.
The festival is going to be a more youth-centric affair this year. Virendra Chitrav, organiser of the event, said, "We are trying to involve more youth and students in this literary festival. We have asked them to send their documentaries and short films on various topics which will be screened at the film festival as a part of the event. We have been receiving a good number of young students for the past few editions of the festival and we intend to encourage them to actively participate."
As the Pulotsav is organised in the memory ofu00a0PL Deshpande, the organisers have made the event free of charge.
