Even as Mumbai, like the rest of the world, is still under the spell of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, Enlighten Film Society is set to showcase two masterpieces by the celebrated filmmaker who straddled world and mainstream cinema with ease.
Ronak Dixit of Enlighten Film Society tells us that the release of the Batman film was instrumental in scheduling this particular festival. He adds that the festival was possible thanks to Enlighten's programming team who have been following and updating themselves with Nolan's work.
The first film presented will be Following, Nolan's first full-length film, made in 1998. It was written and directed by the icon. The suspense-driven plot is set through the eyes of a stalker who befriends a burglar.
The second film is The Prestige (2006) is a completely different storyline about two competitive magicians, using the flashback formulae with finesse.
The memorable climax, which is signature Nolan, is recognised as his best work. Enlighten will also screen his short film Doodlebug (1997).
