Five short films produced under the guidance of Anurag Kashyap, which talk about India as a visual journey, recently premiered on YouTube. Punam Chavan catches the flicks and ends up being impressed

Through his feature films, Anurag Kashyap, along with some of his contemporaries, is redefining the new Indian cinema. And now has turned mentor as well. Five talented young directors have come together under the supervision of Kashyap to showcase their films on YouTube. What makes the short films, produced by Viacom 18, unique, is that each of them capture the essence of modern India through a common concept -- India is a visual journey.

In The Epiphany a couple discusses and overcomes their old wounds

Rudrarup Dutta, head of marketing and operations at Viacom 18, says, "People watch films on their laptops and even on their hand-held devices. We wanted to give our audience an enriching experience of short films, that can be watched on the go."

Neeraj Ghaywan's The Epiphany tells the story of a divorced couple who is forced to take a road trip together and get talking, discussing and overcoming their old wounds. Vasan Bala's GeekOut portrays the dual lives that we live.

And Geetanjali Rao's Chai looks at how a fast-changing India is affecting people, through the eyes of people from across India bound by one common love -- tea!

Dutta says, "We were approached by Google to make short films. The concept was unique and interesting so we took it on. The choice of taking these films to international film festivals is still open and we will do the needful when the time comes."

The movies can be downloaded for free and are definitely worth a watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
