Scout a player and make a sports team on Jumpsum, which launches this month
Only available on Android
In 2014, Andheri resident Nirmal Gandhi often went for a net-practice session of cricket. "We were three friends, and would always have trouble finding more partners to play with."
That's when the idea to create a platform for sports enthusiasts came to his mind. He shared this idea with his childhood friend Punit Bhuptani, who had also cancelled many plans of turf football due to lack of players.
In the coming weeks, the duo will be ready to launch an android app that offers the flexibility to create, organise and manage a sports event and find sports buddies in their vicinity, Jumpsum. "You can call it a sports matchmaker," says Bhuptani.
How does it work
To sign up, the app asks you to create a sports profile which requires your name, telephone (which is not shared with other user) and a picture. If you sign up through Google or Facebook, the details are automatically fed in. "Out of 32 sports available on our app, you have to pick your interests, and make one the primary sport. This helps our backend to suggest relevant data," Gandhi explains.
For example, if you pick cricket, the user must specify your expertise, whether you are a professional or a beginner, a batsmen or a bowler. And if you have a medal or certificate to boast of, you can put that up too.
There's kabbadi, fitness dancing like zumba and bokwa, volleyball, squash and cycling to choose from.
Connect to people following a similar sports activity in the vicinity. So, if it is a running partner or a yoga buddy, you can reach out and a fix a date.
What can I do on the app?
The app allows the user to scout a player/trainer, create teams and groups, communication with players, create an event and locate sports centres and turfs. Sports centres and sports accessory shops can also reach out to customers here and offer deals too. Worried the app will create spams? You can block people too.
