Come December 10, and Kolkata's iconic tearoom and confectionary, Flurys, will open its second outlet outside the City of Joy, in Navi Mumbai
With Christmas and New Year around the corner, it seems fitting that the Maximum City gets ready to welcome Kolkata's favourite confectionary, Flurys, to Navi Mumbai next week. Founded in Calcutta (as it was called then) in 1927 by Joseph and Freida Flurys, Christmas feasts for generations are considered incomplete without the Dundee cake or Yule Log from this famous tearoom.u00a0

The confection-ary and patisserie offers a delightful spread of homely goodies
Christmas treats are not the only thing that this Park Street landmark is famous for. The eatery is as popular for scrumptious pleasures such as the delectable Chocolate Rum Balls, fresh Chicken Sandwiches, Chocolate Ovals and Hot Chocolate.

Eighty years is a long time and Flurys has seen a lot during the course of its journey of titillating palates. Owned by the Apeejay Surrendra Group since 1965, it is only recently felt that the confectionary needed to step outside its comfort zone and venture outside Kolkata. A few months ago, an outlet was set-up in Hyderabad and now, the next stop is Navi Mumbai. Vikas Kumar, Executive Chef, Flurys, tells us more, "The launch in Navi Mumbai was neither sudden nor impulsive. In fact, it was well planned and in line with their growth targets. The reason for choosing Navi Mumbai as a location was to avail the support and expertise of an established production unit that exists there."

Flurys remains a popular haunt for Kolkata's tea-loving crowds
The flagship Flurys tearoom housed inside Stephen Court, in Kolkata has an Art Deco look painted in shades of white, pink and gold, and is mirrored. The Navi Mumbai outlet, Puri said will have a more modern, stylish and sophisticated look and would be smaller in size and format than theu00a0flagship store.

Almost all Flurys heritage products will be available including the Silvana cake, the Cube Pastries and even the plump and juicy Chicken and Mutton Patties. Puri said that the head pastry chef for the Mumbai operations along with his team has undergone rigorous training at the production facility in Kolkata. He adds, "There will also be refresher trainings and product audits from time to time to ensure adherence to the Flurys standards." We can't wait to stand in line for our piece of cake.
