1. You must have been really happy when Investment won the National Award for Best Marathi film...
It was great winning the National Award especially because people did not accept me as a cameraperson. I was sidelined, as I did movies that were not a part of the mainstream cinema. But I felt that content mattered. When I started shooting with the Canon 5D camera, people thought I wouldn't be able to do it. But my movies have gone to international festivals and that itself speaks about the quality of my work. This award gave us the recognition we wanted in our country.
2. You never took any photography lessons. How did you learn to shoot films on digital SLR (DSLR) camera?u00a0
Stanley Ka Dabba is the first Hindi film shot on a DSLR. No one in our crew knew anything about it. Only our technical head was aware of such things happening in America. I hadn't seen any film shot on a DSLR either. But it was fun. I don't think any one can teach you photography; you have to experiment a lot and learn on your own. You must make the camera a part of your body, it's only then that you will become a good photographer; you have to learn to capture all moments. Besides, one must learn to satisfy the ego of the photographer and the photographer should be able to adjust to the situation at times.
3. What do you find the most challenging thing in your career?
The biggest challenge is that every frame is important. But, for a middle class person, the challenge starts from buying a camera. Every project is a different challenge and also one has to think differently for every project. One has to understand the story and shoot accordingly to succeed.
