It seems to be the season for poetry contests. And, if you didn't make it to the one held at Bandra's Title Waves yesterday, here's another shot at a wordmaster's title. Just a couple of months after the previous poetry tournament, Tuning Fork has announced its sixth edition.
But, this isn't going to be like just another edition of poetry nights at the Khar venue. Host Tejas Coulagi says of the contest, "Each time I try and make it different. On previous occasions, participants have been asked to write a poem that either ends with a certain line, or includes a certain emotion."
Tougher: You include two opposite emotions in the poem - sad and romantic for example - and separate the two with a given line. If the word-smithery won't challenge you, may be the requirements of performance might. Coulagi certainly will lay out an interesting evening.
Participants will be given the topic an hour before the show begins along with writing material. The performance (in Hindi or English) should last five minutes. "Once someone read out a poem in English and then also Hindi. The best part is, though he usually writes in English, his Hindi poem was so good, he won the first prize for it."
The first in each category will fetch you Rs 500 and the second will get you R300. Well, enough for one drink. And, even if you don't plan to participate, it does promise to be a fun way to spend a Monday evening.
