While flipping through the pages of the just released edition of Art India that celebrates sixty years of it sashaying along with the Indian artistic psyche, one cannot but smile in contentment at the giant strides that one is privy to.
Rich tribute to various art forms and trends are paid in this collector's edition, pays tribute to the graphic novel and comics. From the charm of Amruta Patil's Kari to the mystique of the Manga comic and Sarnath Banerjee's world of oddball characters, it's a wondrous, intense and insightful joyride that the reader cannot miss.
This apart, lose yourself in the colours, hues and palates of Vivan Sundaram's meeting of fashion and art, the Kanoria Centre for Arts' support for young talent in India, the architectural spaces of Shantiniketan and Jorasanko, al fresco in India. The list is endless.
We also liked Jerry Pinto's take on Amar Chitra Katha's platform for the hero and how Jyotiba Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar make headway into the graphic novel, in a refreshing attempt at highlighting social injustice.
Rekha Rodwittiya's feisty female figures also come in for mention as is Tallur LN's works at the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum's from Quintessential that engage the reader with contemporary issues using relics. Pick this one for a display where art gets a traditional and contemporary platform to showcase India's finest creative minds.u00a0
