In the race to defend its crown, Toyota Corolla (all-versions) remains the highest-selling car in the world for the first half of 2016. Toyota sold 6,34,298 units (from January to June 2016) of the Corolla badge as per the data collected by Focus2move, an Italian research and consulting website. A nameplate that has been doing wonders for this auto giant, Corolla has managed to scale heights that no other car has achieved. Back in 2015, when it took the number one spot, Toyota sold a staggering 1.3 million units worldwide within a year (more than 13.3 lakh cars) under the Corolla badge, a feat that no other car has achieved till now.

Sold as Corolla Altis in India, this C segment executive sedan from Toyota has captured its segment by being one of the most popular cars in its class. While the car is available as an executive sedan in India, it also comes in a hatchback avatar in other markets. However, the love towards the Corolla badge is amicable worldwide which has made it the most selling nameplate.

Coming in second is Volkswagen with the Golf, which is also aiming to become the world's largest automaker. The car is in the race, currently placed at second spot with 5,00,630 units for the first half of 2016 and might finish the year at the same spot as it did in 2015 (i.e. second spot). Although, we don't get the Golf here in India, this is one rivalry that the entire world would like to watch. While there is still time before the year comes to a closure, let's see which of these cars can hit the number one spot.
