The Bombay Canteen in Mumbai ranked 35 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2023; makes the list with three other Indian bars

Mumbai-based The Bombay Canteen in Lower Parel has been ranked number 35 on the prestigious Asia's 50 Best Bars 2023 list released on Tuesday, July 18 in Rosewood in Hong Kong.

The neighbourhood bar, known for its food and cocktails, opened doors to diners in 2015. The restaurant boasts of unconventional pairings, handcrafted, smooth libations and in-house infusions while celebrating Indian produce through innovative techniques. The menu has Spicy Gimlet, Plum Manhattan, Stolen Kiss with more recent introductions being The Waiting List, which was introduced in the new Cocktail Menu, launched last month.

The intimate bar at The Bombay Canteen comes alive with vintage lamps, globe lights and fluted glass, designed to encourage people to converse, connect and unwind. The cocktails have ingredients used in infusions, bitters, shrubs and tonics to create a spectacular selection of signature concoctions. The cocktail programme pays tribute to the untold stories of Mumbai and each edition of the Canteen Cocktail Book (bar menu) takes on a unique design to bring that story to life.

Some of the newer cocktails on the Canteen Cocktail menu include Waiting List, a highball-style concoction with coconut fat-washed tequila, curry leaf soda and a curry leaf salt rim; Spicy Gimlet, a new age interpretation of the classic with gin, house-made chili marmalade, bird eye chili tincture and lime juice; or the Stolen Kiss an innovative blend of tequila, pickled starfruit and pineapple. Don't judge the good times by its size but instead order one of the Mini Martinis like Canteen Gibson - a blend of gin, dry white wine and seasonal pickle; Plum Manhattan with whiskey, house-made plum vermouth and bitters or Papa's Palmetto combining dark rum, Luxardo Maraschino, Amaro Montenegro and sweet vermouth.

Apart from The Bombay Canteen, Delhi's Sidecar was ranked at 18, Bengaluru's Copitas at 38, and the Living Room in Mumbai at 48 -- making that four India bars on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2023.
