In the age of social media, trends go viral everyday. Be it a celebrity's red carpet look, or straight from the runaway, there are a million eyes that are glued to screens across the world. To differentiate fleeting from prominent, we've got beauty experts to outline make-up and hair trends that are set to shine over the next year.
Below, Anupma Katyal, national creative director, make-up and nails at Lakme Salon, and Pooja Singh, national creative director, hair at Lakme Salon list upcoming beauty trends that will help you stay ahead of the curve in 2023.
Glass Skin
A make-up trend to continue this year is the glass glow sheen on skin, which gives the illusion of a luminous healthy glowing skin. With heavy foundations being a thing of the past, the concept of âless is more' will continue to trend. A great way to achieve the âglass glow skin' will be by adding a few drops of strobe cream in liquid foundation and creating a glow luminescent and radiant base, which gives the appearance of healthy skin.

Champagne and Shimmer
Eyes will continue to be the centre of attraction and shine through 2023. Inner corners will be lit with champagne colours with shimmering eye shadow on the lid, adding heavy lashes will enhance the look.
Glossy Lips
This trend that started earlier this year will continue to be the rage all through 2023. What's not to like about a glossy lip? A translucent gloss on the lips with shades of berry, pinks, purple and red lipsticks, will make their way from the current fall season smoothly into the spring.
Blush Strobing
This trend is surely going to be a big hit in 2023. Taking the âno-makeup' makeup look a notch higher, this trend suggests adding blush and highlighter before the foundation. The warm red or pink blush along with the highlighter will shine through the skin giving a naturally flushed look.
Hair
Haircuts
The Octopus haircut will continue to grow in popularity next year. An apt face-framing style, the shape of this haircut resembles the classic shag and exemplifies a short fringe or curtain bangs.
The âBixie', which is a fusion of pixie and bob, started trending in 2022 courtesy the Cannes Film Festival. In this cut, the hair usually sits two to three inches long at the base of the neck. The layers are pieces, which give movement and texture. It is perfect for those who are unsure about pulling off something as transformative as a pixie.
The shredded haircut is used by men and women and promises to be even hotter in 2023. This versatile beauty can be styled in many ways and the beauty of the haircut is the length that works so well complemented with curtain bangs.
Styling
When it comes to styling, curly hair will continue to stay en vogue. Accepting, defining and styling one's curls will continue to gather mass appeal. The growth of products specially formulated for curly hair like leave-in conditioners, gels, silk and satin bonnets, will only enhance the curly hair trend.
The beach waves are an unrivalled classic, that suit each and every face shape, haircut and texture, are here to stay. The 90s spiky bun is a versatile updo that will be the rage.
Colour
Whether you're looking for a mild switch-up or a dramatic transformation 2023 has a fresh colour for everyone. Holographic shades, pastel lavender and blues looking to go all out with their ânew year, new me' transformation. Whereas copper and burgundy will continue to rule the charts as they did in 2022. These are more suitable for those who like to keep it subtle.
Colour Techniques
As for colour techniques, Balayage is here to stay. âBalayage' is a French word that literally translates to âsweep', and refers to the hair colouring technique in which highlights are hand-painted or swept on the surface of random sections of hair. 2023 will see a lot of face-framing colour techniques such as the money pieces. Also, the Gemini hair or dual toned colours like black and blue or blond and lavender, will continue to rule the charts.
