Navratri is one of those festivals, which is a great deal among many in Mumbai. This festival of colours, light, music and dance is marked by community celebrations, which call for bringing the best version of you while reveling yourself with friends and family. Given that dressing up for nine days of garba and dandiya nights is mandatory, it is one of those occasions when people get a chance to put on makeup without regrets. Followed by Navratri, we also have Karwa Chauth and Diwali round the corner.

While many happily join the minimalist bandwagon these days, people are learning to focus on little and accentuate their overall outfit. Whether it is highlighting the cheeks, lips or only eyes, there is a need to balance out and feel at ease, while slaying the look with authentic glowing effects. According to beauty content creator, Diksha Sachdev, luminous skin with inner glow and glossy lips are the trends people are eyeing for.

"An oil-based primer, an illuminating cream, and a sheer finish luminous foundation may all be used to create this look after properly washing, toning, and moisturising your skin. Instead of using a loose setting powder, set this face base with a water-based setting spray," explains Sachdev.

Haania Manzar, digital beauty content creator, highlights the concept of ‘lamination brow', which is the newest technique for increasing brow volume and achieving a thick, bush, organic and fluffy brows, which are the season favourite.

"The brow seems thicker because the brow hair grows upward rather than laterally. Use products like brow pencils, wax, pomade, or brow markers with a tattoo look to groom the brows," says Manzar.

Asha Hariharan, education director and celebrity artist at Enrich Beauty, shares a step-by-step guide for Navratri makeup:

Step 1: It's all about the base

This is the most crucial part of your makeup. Get your base correct and flawless. Navratri is a hyperactive occasion of Garba and dance. Make sure to create a sweat-proof base on your face. Go for a glass skin or a base and avoid using extra products, as it will make your face look cakey.

Step 2: Chics get pink cheeks

You don't want to look tired during dandiya night. Use a pink blush or tint to sprinkle freshness on your face. Wear a pink blush on the apple of your cheeks. According to Manzar, a blush is fantastic for adding balance and colour to the cheeks for a healthy glow. Use a gel or blush stain first, and then add a tiny bit of cream blush on top of that. Lightly sprinkle powder on top of it to set your look for a longer duration.

Step 3: Create statement eyes

Amp up your eyes by applying the right shades to your eyelids. Go for a shimmery shade on your eyelids and contour your crease with a nude or a darker shade of eyeshadow. Manzar suggests going for mascara. Warm burgundy and deep berry tones intensify blue eyes, violet tones make green eyes pop, and jewel-toned purples make brown eyes glitter.

According to Sachdev, using delicate gold or champagne glitter over delicate gold eyeshadow can give one a simple yet glammed-up appearance. If the eyes are the focus, keep the lips soft and matte; stay away from shiny lips.

Step 4: Bushy brows

Girls, never skip this step. Make your eyebrows bold and bushy. Use a thick brow pencil to define your eyes. Use a brow gel to uplift and give your brows a bushy effect.

Step 5: Plumped lips

Begin by using a scrubber on your lips. Followed by this step, use a hydrating lip moisturiser. Use lip plumper for fuller and more well-defined lips. Lastly, use a preferred creme matte lipstick. According to Sachdev, glossy lips are back in the trend. The newest style for the next season is lips with excessive lip liner. To make the lips appear full and juicy, put a clear lip gloss over a lip stain and swipe it all over the lips. Manzar suggests going for bold red lips with a crimson undertone. If you want bright red lips, be sure to do so.

Experts Sachdev and Manzar share tips on balancing out the makeup elements without feeling too heavy:

1. Avoid using heavy formulations, foundations or heavy-duty concealers or stacking too many products, which may not be suitable for this weather. One can go for a water-based moisturiser after cleansing and toning.

2. Long-lasting and sweat-proof products are always an option, but if you want an effortless solution, try an all-in-one foundation formula like a tinted moisturiser or simply concealer when necessary. This will prevent the creases and caking of your makeup.

3. Apply your SPF after waiting a few minutes for the moisturiser to soak fully. Then apply your basic makeup.

4. It is usually safer to convert to waterproof versions of your ordinary items, but this is especially true when it comes to the eyes. Make sure to apply water-resistant mascara and eyeliner since nobody enjoys having panda eyes.
