Mumbai's top bloggers enlist must-have winter outfits for plus-size women

We are in 2021, so, the idea that heavy women should stick to conservative clothing options is outdated. However, it is also true that plus-size women struggle to find stylish outfits as big brands in India do not have much to offer on the plus size front. But it is downright unacceptable to expect fashion-forward plus-size women to miss out on seasons like winter as it is THE time to wear some of the most suave and sophisticated outfits highly popular among fashion enthusiasts.

Therefore, we spoke to two of Mumbai's top plus-size fashion bloggers: Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar and Neha Parulkar and curated a list of 5 must-have winter outfits for plus women and where to shop them from.

Turtle neck top

Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar aka @thechubbytwirler among her many Instagram followers suggests a plus woman must have turtle neck tops in grey and black colours. She says, "Turtle neck tops are stylish and versatile; they can be paired with sleeveless dresses, high waist skirts, jackets and dungarees and you get several quintessential winter looks." Tanvi adds that "many plus women are wary of donning a turtle neck top as they think it makes them look bustier but the idea is to dress to look stylish and not thin."

Dark denim

Fashion blogger and an expert on Mumbai's street fashion, Neha Parulkar (@nehaparulkar) believes a list of winter staples will remain incomplete without the mention of dark denim. Dark washed denim looks chic and flattering on curvy women as it accentuates the curves and adds an illusion of height.

Pant-suit

Women who do not prefer fabric or outfits that cling to their bodies should swear by pant-suits, says Neha. She adds that pant-suits are warm which makes it perfect for winters. "They are don't wrinkle easily, are durable, and also versatile." Not to mention, there are very few pieces of outfits that look both smart and elegant. Do keep in mind to select pant-suits of thicker fabric, it makes the fit more flattering and the outfit hangs naturally.

Outer-wear

A blazer, thin sweater, shrug etc. adds a whole lot of glamour to your look and winter is the right time to repurpose your outer-wears with almost every outfit. Neha suggests wearing a jacket or a shrug with dresses, denims, palazzos and more. Particularly, denim jackets look really well on curvy women as it flatters her curves.

Scarves and caps

Tanvi says that one of the best things about winter fashion is that you can keep adding elements to your attire and they will make it look put-together. Additional elements like scarves can casually wrapped about your neck with maxi dresses, kurtas, denim and tops, in short, almost everything. On the other hand, caps might not be everybody's cup of team but there is no harm in experimenting, is there? Try a woollen cap with denim and jacket or dungarees or even off shoulder dresses and you will have a high fashion, glamourous look for any time of the day.
