No more a finger brush through hair feels like the âit girl in her world' moment anymore. If anything, it reveals the underlying mash-up of melting foundation, smeared mascara, oily skin and painful sunburns.
On this note, we agree with the Mumbai-based skin guru Dinyar Workingboxwalla that this year the sun Gods have not been very kind to us. With peaking temperatures and the incessant humidity, the heat continues to wreak havoc on our skin and drain our cheek tints.
However, makeup artists opine that with a touch of beauty hacks and a sprinkle of know-how, we can outsmart even the most relentless sunbeams. Get started with your sweat-proof makeup with Dinyar, who has also co-founded Beauty by BIE with Queenie Singh.

Beauty beginner basics
Don't ditch the dew, ditch the heavy creams: Go for foundations that are waterproof and lighter than a feather at a chicken dance party none of that heavy cake stuff! Improve your foundation game by applying it with a damp sponge which ensures no patching or caking.

Beauty Balms: K-beauty fervour ain't leaving our makeup shelves. These K-beauty versions of tinted moisturisers give you sheer coverage with a tinge of colour and hydration. One can also use BB/CC creams that give light coverage with SPF protection and hydration. Since these balms give you lighter coverage as compared to slippery foundations, it isn't as evident when they slowly start wearing off.
Prepping up the skin for summer makeup
Before you tackle the summer makeup challenge, take notes from Mumbai's makeup maven Kajol Paswwan:
1. Opt for a fresh and lightweight approach to prep your skin for makeup in the summer heat.
2. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to banish sweat and excess oil, ensuring a clean canvas.
3. Swap out heavy moisturisers for lightweight, oil-free alternatives to avoid feeling weighed down.
4. Don't forget the SPF! Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher before any makeup application, extending it to exposed areas like your neck and hands.
5. Consider using a mattifying primer to keep shine at bay and prolong the wear of your makeup.
Mastering makeup longevity:
Prevent makeup from caking in humidity
In the summer makeup arena, think of primer as your trusty sidekick! Say goodbye to creases and makeup meltdowns with a long-lasting primer that's tougher than a toddler's tantrum. Opt for a gripping, gel-based primer that's your best mate, holding your makeup hostage against sweat's slippery schemes and ensuring your foundation stays glued to your face.
Dinya shares the next crucial step that will prevent your makeup from creasing is powdering. "Since the inception of makeup, you'll probably know that setting your cream and liquid foundations, concealers with a setting powder is crucial."
Use a mattifying, translucent powder that will set your makeup seamlessly without making it look cakey. Also, the few tricks to achieve a dewy, luminous glow amidst the summer heat is to brush the powder only on the areas prone to creasing and getting oily (your t-zone, under-eyes, forehead and chin).

Makeup maestro Simran Prajapati, founder of Sparkle Stories, suggests applying loose powder or compact after using tinted SPF or moisturiser to prevent makeup caking and creasing.
Kajol throws in another nugget of wisdom: make sure your cleansers and moisturisers are as oil-free as possible. When it comes to makeup, opt for sweat-resistant and long-lasting products. Lightweight foundations and waterproof eye products are your absolute BFFs in the summer heat. And last but not least, seal the deal with translucent powder and a setting spray.
Keeping lip shade intact
Dinya unveils the trick to keeping the lipstick colour intact despite the heat and humidity: While mattifying, liquid lipsticks might seem like the obvious choice for scorching summer days, lip stains emerge as the true champions. With their transfer-proof formula and ability to impart a subtle wash of colour and hydration, lip stains stand as the ultimate solution for maintaining flawless lips even in the sweltering heat of summer.
Simran adds the final trick to solve your lipstick woes: Opt for matte lipstick over creamy textures. Additionally, after applying lipstick, lightly dab loose powder onto your lips to enhance longevity.
Preventing eyeshadow from fading
The summer heat shouldn't stop one from going all glam with their makeup regardless of the rising temperatures. Fret not! Dinya's got your back!
Eye primer: Always apply a gripping base on the eye that will hold the colours well and deliver a good payoff! Without creasing the shadows.
Powder Play: Go for powder-based eye shadows over cream-based products for a long-lasting application. One can also use shimmery textured shadows, to give the illusion of a glimmery look.
Baking: Apply a translucent powder under your lower lash line to absorb excess oil and prevent smudging.

Get a natural, dewy glow without looking oily
Summer shouldn't ruin your dewy look and make you look like a storehouse of oil waiting to be raided by the 'you know who'. Take Dinya and Simran's tips to achieve a natural dewy look:
Hydration is Key: Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser before makeup.
Strategic Highlighting: Apply a liquid or cream highlighter on your cheekbones, brow bone, and cupid's bow for a subtle glow.
Mattifying Setting Spray: Consider using a dewy finish setting spray after completing your makeup. This not only helps set your base but also enhances the dewy appearance. Additionally, keep blotting paper handy to maintain a fresh, dewy look throughout the day.
Makeup oxidation is the worst during summers
During summer, makeup oxidation is the ultimate nemesis, wreaking havoc on your flawless look with its sneaky colour changes. Kajol recommends starting your make up routine with a pH-balancing toner and an oil-free moisturiser.
Use a primer to create a stable base and choose powdered foundations that are slightly lighter, as they darken less. Sunscreen compatible with your foundation is crucial, and a setting spray can seal the deal. Store products in a cool place and touch up with translucent powder to absorb excess oils.
To combat that midday slump, try a refreshing facial mist with ingredients like rosewater or green tea. Lightly mist your face before blotting away excess oil. DIY a cucumber and aloe vera ice cube ââ¬" gently rub it over your skin for an instant cooling and soothing effect. These refreshers will perk up your makeup and leave your skin feeling revitalised.
Essential summer skincare
Summer demands a tailored skincare regimen, and makeup expert Dinya unveils her secrets to beat the heat in style:
Double Cleanse: Remove all traces of oil, dirt and sweat with an oil-based cleanser first followed by a water-based cleanser. Ensure you have a clean canvas devoid of makeup or any spec of dirt or oil. Clogged pores are a common phenomenon in summer.
Exfoliate: Once or twice a week, use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells for smoother makeup application.
Moisturise: Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated without making it greasy.
Sunscreen: Never skip SPF! Choose a non-comedogenic sunscreen (won't clog pores) with SPF 30 or higher.
By following these tips and choosing the right products, you can achieve a flawless makeup look that will last all summer long.
