The pandemic and lockdown have impacted numerous aspects of our life, why would clothing be any different. Suddenly we didn't have a use for our extensive office wear, or any of our black-tie garments. All we needed was comfortable loungewear while we spent our days and nights indoors. Consumer spending and behaviour patterns have changed in the due course of this year giving birth to new trends that have captured the imagination of the fashion industry and its patrons.
On International Men's Day, fashion influencer Nikhil Rana shares his mantras on what men should consider if they need to stay in tune with the latest trends, "Staying on or ahead of trends can be a real headache for most men. Where do you look? How do you know what trends to follow? Are you too old to follow them? These are all just a handful of questions which haunt most men when the subject of trends is brought up". Below, he shares with us five styling tips to effortlessly keep up with the latest fads.
1. The classic suit
Nothing beats the classic suit when it comes to elegance, class, and style. Fitting is essential to a suit looking good, always remember that a well-tailored suit seldom goes wrong. It does not matter if the material is expensive or the cut is trendy unless you get the size right.
2. Shoes matter
Timelessness is about simple design and all the more so with shoes. The colour, the pattern, the sole - you don't want it fussy. Anything too flashy may look good now but will look strange very quickly. It's the shape of the toe that really counts - and round never goes out of fashion. Invest in a pair of nice formal shoes and you will not regret it.

3. Minimalist attire
The pandemic has brought our focus back to the effortlessness of a minimalist wardrobe. A plain white shirt or a black t-shirt is all you need for a work from home session or a quick run to the neighbourhood grocery store. You may be dressed casually but that doesn't mean you can't be dressed sharply. Don't stick to the monochromatic scheme; opt for a variety of dark hues this winter.
4. Accessorise
The beauty of wearing neutral coloured clothing is you can jazz it up with accessories. Take a little risk and experiment with colours and patterns, be it your socks, ties, pockets squares, bow ties, and so on. Try out some unusual cuff links or lapel pins. Your quirky accessories can be your statement pieces; don't be shy of expressing your fun side.
5. Watches are forever
Similar to shoes, spending on a good watch is not simply a cost but an investment. A timepiece is the most subtle accessory to enhance your style quotient. When picked right and coordinated well, they add character and depth to your look. Remember, watches have been regarded as status symbols for long, making them the most important accessory in your armour.
