Starting off as an event executive in the NGO, today, Khushboo Goel is one of the driving forces at the NGO Kartavya Charitable Trust who brings a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged children. 

Goel who is now in her mid-twenties, was married off at a tender age, converted to another religion, and had also been a victim of domestic abuse. She got pregnant even before turning 20 years old. Goel’s life has been full of hurdles. However, when this Mumbaikar held her newborn baby in her arms for the first time, everything changed for her. She realised that she didn’t want to raise her son in an abusive and toxic environment and chose to walk out. However, starting a new independent life wasn’t easy.

While a Facebook friend helped her with her fees for appearing in Class 12 examinations, a colleague she had only met three months ago helped her with Rs 15,000 to start anew. She shares, “Today, I am a bachelor in mass media, a post-graduate in social work. I am going to continue to teach myself new things each and every day and make myself stronger.”

In a bid to give her son a better life, this single mom, who rebelled against domestic abuse is now an educator. Empowering numerous young children today is one of her life’s missions. The Mumbaikar along with her NGO team has reached out to lakhs of children spreading awareness on child safety, hygiene and education.

Additionally, Goel shares, “I have trained 6,000 young girls on using menstrual cups and it gives me goosebumps every time I train and talk to them. When they address me as ‘Khushi didi’, I feel great joy”, Goel gleams with pride. On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023, we salute such menstrual hygiene crusaders.
