IN PHOTOS: How these artists are exploring AI art through Mumbai themes and their work

Manoj Omre, Prishi Jain and Priyanku Sarmah have been experimenting with different styles of Artificial Intelligence art, more commonly known as AI art over the last year. While they started out for fun, today they are not only using it in their jobs as designers but also aiming to use it to make short films, and even start an AI studio

Ever since Manoj Omre moved to Mumbai in 2017, he has fallen in love with the city. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh and having studied in Delhi, he has grown as a person in Mumbai and that is why he has experimented with different themes in AI art related to it, apart others like Harry Potter, Avengers, the DC universe and even Navratri and Dussehra.

Uptil now, he has explored themes like 'Mumbai as a Dreamland', 'Mumbai Monsoon Couture', 'Mumbai Transport Vehicles as Adventure Rides' and 'Vehicles for Mumbai Rain'. All of them not only showcase his talent but also vision as an artist as they are surreal, and it is also why he says, it should shock or amuse you. With hues of red, yellow, pink, blue and green, they take the viewer on a whole new journey every time.

While Omre believes the AI platforms are still not ready for professional projects, he uses them to create a vision of what he wants to create. It is like a storyboard for the main project for him, and acts as a design assistant and set up the whole mood and vibe, and then he can do the real work.

Prishi Jain, who is a Pune-based industrial designer, has been dabbling with AI art since March 2022. While she has learned the traditional method of pen and paper and works with it, with other early software, the designer has been actively using AI art software in the last six months for her work. Since she has a very technical style to her art, Jain has gone beyond the technical style into a varied domain to get the best of both worlds.

In the process, she has learned how it could be good for her especially with the need for a faster turnaround time for even the creative field with strict deadlines. It has helped her realise how easy the entire process once she visualises what she wants to make and then carry the process out.

The Pune designer doesn't only stop at just creating the render on AI, but after that goes back to her traditional methods to figure out the dimensions, especially because she makes a lot of products and furniture as a part of her job. So, she reverse engineers the visuals and that helps Jain while designing.

Priyanku Sarmah created a reel out of beautiful AI art that combined his love for Anime, Mumbai and art that has now got over 1.4 million views on Instagram. Over time, he has explored different themes including India's history like Revolt of 1857 as well as festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi being celebrated in Mumbai.

Now, he wants to take it a step further. Having tried traditional methods of funding his short film, he now plans to make it with the help of AI art. Additionally, Sarmah has also collaborated with like-minded AI artists to create a collaborative and form an AI studio called SamurAi, which will cater to the advertising industry as of now.
