The exhibition features a collection of 45 to 50 artworks, all created with acrylic on canvas, depicting the profound interplay between humanity and nature. It includes a mix of realistic and abstract artworks that pay homage to the world around us.
The realistic pieces capture nature’s delicate nuances, from the dappling of sunlight through the leaves to the rugged texture of the bark. Reflecting on the process, Mali shares, "The creative process for realistic works requires patience and observation, as I aim to recreate the intricate details of nature."
The abstract creations evoke emotions through bold strokes and vibrant colours. Sharing how the process differs from realistic pieces, the artist says, "Abstract works allow for more emotional spontaneity and exploration. Realism gives structure, while abstraction provides freedom.”
Even as urbanisation transforms landscapes, Mali aims to celebrate and preserve nature's memories through his art. “It’s a beautiful feeling to know that through my work, I can keep alive things that are no longer in existence,” he remarks.
The art exhibition was inaugurated on Monday by veteran actor Kabir Bedi, who was accompanied by his wife.
Bedi expressed his admiration for the vibrant collection of works, saying, “I would like to congratulate Dilip Mali on his exhibition inspired by nature - the vibrant hues, emotions, trees, seas, and mountains… It’s a spectacular show that he has put together at the iconic Jehangir Art Gallery. This is a space where India’s most celebrated artists have showcased their work, and over the years, I have witnessed the works of so many renowned names here.”
This solo show will be on display at Gallery No. 4 of Jehangir Art Gallery in Kala Ghoda until January 5, 2025, before travelling to Vachi Art Gallery in Worli.
